Girdles & Cinctures
Angel Supplies has a full range of cinctures and girdles available in all styles and various colours, with both knotted and tassled ends available. In the Roman Catholic Church, the cincture is a long (usually 12ft) rope-like cord with tassled or knotted ends tied around the waist outside the alb. The colour may be white, or may vary according to the colour of the liturgical season. A Bishop’s cincture is made of intertwining gold and green threads while a Cardinal’s has red and gold.
In the Anglican, Methodist and Lutheran churches, as well as some Protestant churches the cincture is known as a girdle, and the term “cincture” refers to a broad sash worn over a cassock above the waist.
